My Favorite Features (Including Price) – BenQ GW2283 22-Inch + Eye Care

For me, I want to talk about the purpose of this setup. I wanted 2 quality screens that weren’t going to give out or cause me trouble down the road. I’m not interested in flaky hardware with a history of problems like missing pixels, black lines or flickering. I would be using the screen for a home office, including email, word, excel, watching YouTube videos in my down time or even playing a game, so I don’t need a 4k screen or that expense. I want the option to hook this up to a gaming console, if desired, but again, don’t want the expense of 4k. I have a small desk, and will be sitting close to the screens, so I didn’t want any large monitors to make me feel sick or give me vertigo after working from home all day, so 22-24in screen was my goal. I also did not want to spend a lot of money on this setup. So… I ended up finding the perfect solution and at an awesome price point. Also, the number of Amazon 5-star reviews and the bonus features made this purchase a no-brainer and now I have a pretty sweet setup.

5. A VGA or D-Sub cable. The screen stuff supports the older VGA technology and in case you don’t have a cable, they’ve included one. No HDMI cable included though. I’ll link some in the description and everything else seen here today as well.
6. A power cord. No power adapter is required, so that’s great news. It’s nice and thick and just over 5ft in length or 1.5m.
7. These last 2 pieces are the stand. Let’s put that aside for now
8. Sandwiched in the foam we have the monitor. It’s a 21.5-inch screen rounded up to be called a 22-inch monitor. It’s full HD displaying in 1080p with an aspect ratio of 16:9. I’ll lay it here and that matt finish looks perfect, just look at how super clean that is.

1. 1. One of the big features I love about this monitor (which is a bonus for me) is the super thin frame. BenQ calls it frameless, and as you can see, the frame is super thin. This is important to me for when I use the monitors side-by-side, I don’t like any gap between the 2 and this will certainly help keep that to a minimum and give me the feel of one large workspace.
   2. At the bottom of the screen under the brand name, we have the environmental lighting sensor, to help the screen adjust its brightness depending on lighting conditions. More on that to come.
   3. On the bottom on each side of the device, we have what looks like 2 vents. These are where the speakers are located. The sound quality isn’t great, but I’ll demo that once we get the monitor up and running. Not a deal breaker since I’ll be using headphone connected to my laptop anyways.
   4. Towards the front of the right speaker, we have the power and menu buttons. These are pretty straight forward. With that said, the menu is very intuitive. That makes me happy. To bring up the menu, push any of the menu buttons.
   5. On the back of the monitor, let’s peel off the logo protection sticky.
   6. Right below we have the 4 screw holes for mount stands. They are 100mm apart, so if you plan on using a desk mount, make sure your mounting plate supports this distance. We’ll use these here shortly in our setup today.
   7. Let’s jump down to see where the power cord is connected. Pretty standard.
   8. In the center here we have the slot for the included stand. Notice the release button on top of this mount to remove the stand. Here is a quick demo of how that works and setting up the stand. I used a pen to push the release mechanism so I can slide out the stand. Also, check out this bonus feature: I hate looking at cords, but the solves it well with this cord storage door on the back of the stand. Slide it up to the unlocked position and remove the cover. You can direct your cables through here to help keep things tiny. Pretty cool little feature to take advantage of that space. Lastly on the stand, not that it doesn’t allow the monitor to twist or swivel but it does tilt. Here is a look at the extent of the tilt with the included base.
   9. Back to the ports, we have 2 HDMI inputs (which I’ll be using), a D-SUB (or VGA). Next to that there is an audio line in and an output for a headset or external speakers. Pretty standard options. As you may know. the HDMI will also bring audio to the monitors.
   10. Finally, here is the lower corner we have a slot for a lock, in case you need to tether the monitor to prevent thief.
   11. The monitor has beaten my expectations so far. Also, get this, the refresh rate of 75Hz with a response time of 1ms over HDMI. Perfect for smooth video and the option of some gaming without lag or ghosting.

1. The first feature is eye care. The screen brightness will adjust given the amount of ambient light present in the room. I’ll go ahead and activate this feature and use my bright studio lights to represent daylight and I will place my finger over the lighting sensor to represent darkness. I’ll turn on the Bright Intelligence setting. The sensor sensitivity it 50% by default. We know eye care is active because we will see this icon showing the current ambient brightness. I’ll go ahead and place my finger covering the senor and the icon indicates a low level of light. At this point the monitor will lower its brightness. I’ll fast forward here. Here are a couple quick replays to better see the screen dimming. Now I’ll lift my finger and the screen will get brighter to better match the brighter room. I’ve been using this feature for a few months now and it’s really nice on the eyes when working when the sun is shining into the office, and I want the screen brighter vs at night when I need it dimmer. Pretty cool
2. The second eye protection feature takes us to the Picture Mode where we have several display options like Low Blue Light, Movie, Game, and so on. Low Blue Light is the real eye saver here. As I move though each option, you can see more and more blue light getting removed from the image. My preference here is Multimedia. Checking out the other display options, Movie is the brightest and as I scroll through the options, the screen’s brightness changes to help make the image easier on our eyes.
